Cast Your Nets 2010:  The OYYAM, Vocations Office and regional youth ministry associations are collaborating on an  exciting series of youth events called Cast Your Nets.  It is an evening of Sunday Eucharist, praise and worship,  a keynote presentation, snacks and more, with priests available for the sacrament of reconciliation. All events are Sundays, 5-9:00 PM. The next event will take place in Cincinnati on Jan. 31, 2010 at Good Shepherd parish. Take advantage of this opportunity to gather your youth with others in the archdiocese to be invigorated in their faith and become the new disciples of Christ. The events are free, so just go to our website for more information: www.catholiccincinnati.org/youthmin/CYN.  Also, receive more current updates by becoming a fan on Facebook. Find the link on the CYN homepage.

Schedule a powerful  "Will Our Kids Have Faith?" presentation at your parish!
Parents, Catholic schools and parishes have every reason to worry that our young people are drifting away from the Church.  In a major national study it was discovered that, despite all the wonderful programs, initiatives and guidance that parishes and schools provide, Catholic teenagers consistently scored lower on most measures of religiosity — 5 to 25 percentage points lower than their conservative, mainline, and black Protestant peers.
This eye-opening presentation will
  • Explore the startling findings of the National Study of Youth and Religion (NSYR)
  • Redirect our efforts towards what will really make a difference in the faith of teens
  • Offer practical steps to respond to the challenges we face

Presentations can be geared for any audience (i.e., parents or a parish staff). This may be a particularly great time to schedule a presentation for parents in conjunction with Sacramental preparation. For more information, check out the website at www.catholiccincinnati.org/youthmin/

Theology of the Body...Set to Music! Two amazing musicians who strive to live the call of John Paul II to inspire faith with their gift of music are performing in the Greater Cincinnati Area on Nov. 14 at Covington's Molly Malone's (112 East 4th St. Covington) at 7:00 PM.  Mike Mangione and Vince Scheuerman, are part of a new breed of rock musicians: both grew up on rock music; both, through hard times, came to love their Catholic faith; and both are working hard to make a difference in the secular world with their music.  Mike and Vince have guest performed at several of the week long courses at the Theology of the Body Institute, and this Fall they are going on the road with a solo tour. Make plans to catch this great event with your friends.

Enroll your teens in a Theology of the Body class: Young Catholics are surrounded by influences that challenge their faith and morals every day. These challenges call for more than a "do this, don't do that" approach to catechesis. Using a great mix of stories, real-life examples, activities, prayers and references to the culture that teens understand, Theology of the Body for Teens answers the questions teens have about their own bodies, issues on sexual morality, and how they were uniquely created for greatness. The next winter session meets on Sunday evenings Dec. 6, 2009-Feb. 21, 2010 from 7-9PM. For pricing and more information (and to have a look at their adult offerings as well), check out their upcoming schedule at www.ruahwoods.org.

Storytellers: Youth Ministry through Drama is holding auditions for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat  by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber on Nov. 14 at 4:00 PM and Nov. 15 at 1:00 PM.  Auditions are at the Holy Angels Parish Center (1322 Brown St., Dayton 45409). High School age youth (graduating classes 2010-2013) are invited to get involved as actors, singers, dancers, musicians and back stage crew members. Cast should audition with a prepared song to sing and orchestra musicians should prepare to play a song on their instrument for auditions. Performances will be Feb. 26/27 and Mar. 5/6, 2010. For more information please email the director at ewahle@catholicweb.com.

NET Ministries is coming to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Jan. 28-Feb. 23, 2010 NET Ministries is a retreat ministry that challenges young Catholics to love Christ and embrace the life of the Church.  The retreats, typically for youth in grades 7-12, are high-energy experiences using large group presentations, small group discussion, music, drama, personal faith sharing, one-on-one prayer, and the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist, given at your parish or school.  The goals of the retreat are to help young people understand and accept God’s unconditional love for them, to offer the faith of the team as a witness  that faith in God is a desirable and exciting part of their lives, and to encourage young people to grow in their commitment to Jesus Christ and the Church. pray-as-you-go.org Pray-as-you-go is a free daily prayer session designed for use on your portable MP3 players, to help you pray while traveling to and from work, study, etc. It is not a 'Thought for the Day', a sermon or a bible-study, but rather a framework for your own prayer.  Lasting between 10 and 13 minutes, it combines music, scripture and some questions for reflection. The aim is to help you to
  • become more aware of God's presence in your life

  • listen to and reflect on God's word
  • grow in your relationship with God

It is produced by Jesuit Media Initiatives, with material written by a number of British Jesuits and other experts in the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Although the content is different every day, it keeps the same basic format. Visit pray-as-you-go.org for more information and to get started today!

Need an easier way to communicate with your teens or staff? Can't decide whether to send an e-mail, text message or Facebook posting?  Check out www.Flocknote.com,  a free, new Catholic website that could be perfect for your Catholic parish. Here's a brief description of how the site works: Catholic group leaders  simply create "feeds" for every group that they lead. They can then post notes and documents on this feed to share with their members.  Then, group members subscribe to the feeds and choose how they want to receive their notes: by email, text message, Facebook , or on the website itself. You can even attach documents that group members can download - like newsletters, event flyers, permission slips, etc.  And the best part? It's 100% free - and 100% Catholic.  So check out the website and give it a try!
